Overview
Pavement design, lane configuration and the economic case of a road project all depend on how much traffic actually uses it. A traffic volume count (TVC) records vehicles by class at chosen locations over the hours your study needs.
We plan count stations with you, record classified counts in the format your terms of reference ask for, and deliver summary tables that your design or DPR team can use directly.
Why it matters
Pavement design, lane numbers and the economic case of a road depend on real traffic. Classified counts give designers and approving authorities numbers they can trust.
Our methodology
- Agree stations, classes and duration
- Brief and deploy the count team
- Record classified counts on site
- Check and compile the data
- Deliver tables and the station map
Equipment & technology
Counts are recorded on site by trained field staff in the format your terms of reference specify, then checked and compiled in the office.
Applications
Deliverables
- Hourly classified count sheets
- Summary tables by station and direction
- Peak-hour and daily totals
- Station location map (KML)
From our work
Traffic surveys are often combined with our road topographic and route surveys, so one team delivers both the ground data and the traffic data for a DPR.
Questions
Which vehicle classes do you count?
The classes listed in your terms of reference. If none are given, we agree a standard classification with you before the count starts.
How long should a count run?
It depends on the study. Many road studies ask for 24-hour or multi-day counts; we follow your specification.
Can you combine TVC with a road survey?
Yes. Doing both together saves mobilisation time and cost.
